Elvis was in the building on February 9 at the Deloraine-Winchester Theatre for a rockin’ concert! Southwest Showcase presented A.T. Elvis and the Rockin’ Good Time band for a Sunday afternoon of the King’s greatest hits!
Adam T. has been performing his tribute to Elvis concerts for 27 years! He is billed as Manitoba’s #1 Elvis tribute artist. And does he deliver! The sound, the outfits, the personality and the moves unique to Elvis. Adam T. has been passionate about all things Elvis since he was about 10 years old, and has basically been doing tributes since he was 13. He said it was actually a weekend when he was about 10 that changed his life. “My dad had been kind of humming/singing “Hound Dog” all day on Friday and I thought that’s not a bad sound. Then, on Saturday while I was watching Full House – Uncle Jesse (played by John Stamos) on the show is a huge Elvis fan and he was playing “L’il Sister”. If that wasn’t enough to convince me, on Sunday we watched Elvis’ Jailhouse Rock movie and I was hooked.” Adam T. said his “Elvis” hobby was laughed at by his fellow schoolmates and he saw the inside of many lockers. “I decided to take the negative and turn it into a positive.” And to his credit he developed Adam T. Elvis and his amazing tribute to Elvis.
Part of this obsession led him to attend “Elvis tribute” conventions, which he did for many years. A lifetime highlight occurred at one of these such conventions. Elvis’ band “The Jordanaires and DJ Fontana seek out various “Elvis’s” to perform with them at the convention, and they chose Adam T.! “It was an incredible experience, and they assured me I was being true to Elvis in my performance.” High praise indeed!
The two-set concert featured tributes to Elvis’ hits from the 50’s, 60’s, his movies, 68 Comeback and the Vegas years. These included “Too Much”, “Love Me Tender”, “Shake, Rattle & Roll”, “Loving You”, “Peace In The Valley”, “Stuck on You”, “Devil With A Blue Dress On”, “I Want You, I Need You, I Love You”, “Hard-Headed Woman”, “One Night”, “Teddy Bear”, “That’s All Right Mama”, “Hound Dog”, “Proud Mary”, “Burning Love”, “It’s Now or Never”, “L’il Sister”, “Jail House Rock”, “Don’t Be Cruel”, “Are You Lonesome Tonight”, “Heartbreak Hotel”, “In The Ghetto” “Viva Las Vegas” and “All Shook Up”. This is just a small sampling of the 500+ songs Adam T. and the Rockin’ Good Time Band have in their repertoire!
Adam T. introduced the band, starting with his son – Presley on the drums, and his other son Jackson running the lights, Chris Gillies on keyboard (Winnipeg) and Jack Palace on guitar (Winnipeg). Adam T. and sons hail from Gimli.
The second set was high energy just like Elvis’ 68 Comeback and his Vegas shows. The momentum built to a fever pitch including requests from the audience — “Suspicious Minds” and “Blue Hawaii”. Adam T. added “Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” – one of Elvis’ all-time biggest hits.
“You were a great audience, we’ve had a great time here today and hope to come back some time either with this show or one of our others – “At The Hop” or “Tributes to the Legends – Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Elvis Presley and more). You can catch me on the local radio station from Gimli, MB,” concluded Adam T.
