Eastern Division Final
MacGregor Wild vs Neepawa Farmers
(Series tied 1 - 1)
Game 1 Neepawa 5 MacGregor 1
Game 2 Neepawa 2 MacGregor 5
Friday, February 28 game recap
The MacGregor Wild rebounded from a loss in the opening game of the series, winning game two at home against the Neepawa Farmers 5-2 to even the series 1-1.
The Wild got off to a fast start last night, scoring 54 seconds into the game on a goal by Tyler Ham, assisted by Dustin Bruce and Maverick Rafter.
They added two more, one at 6:06 (Maverick Rafter) and another at 9:25 (Dustin Bruce) to take a 3-0 lead into the second period. The Wild kept the pressure on as Matt Bayduza extended MacGregor’s lead to 4-0 less than six minutes into the second, with assists going to Andrew Bayduza and Matt Varnes.
Neepawa finally responded with a pair of goals by Ward Szucki at 14:52 and 15:21 to narrow the Wild lead to 4-2. Szucki now has five goals in the first two games of this Eastern Division Final.
Then with just 48 seconds remaining in the second, MacGregor’s Tyler Slobogian scored a huge swing goal. Instead of going into the second intermission only down by two, Neepawa was now faced with having to score three times in the third while also shutting out the Wild just to even the score.
Well, Neepawa was able to keep the Wild goalless in the third but they were unable to score any goals themselves and fell 5-2 to MacGregor.
The series now returns to Neepawa for game three on March 4 at 8pm.
