A natural hat trick by Neepawa’s Ward Szucki in the first period powered the Farmers to a convincing 5-1 win over the MacGregor Wild.
The opening game of the Western Division Final in MacGregor saw the Farmers score four unanswered goals in the first period, two on the power play. The two power play goals were scored late in the first less than a minute apart at 18:11 and 19:09 - a crushing blow to MacGregor who could have gone into the intermission down only 2-0, but now saw themselves down by four.
The other Farmers goal in the first was scored by Clarke Rempel less than one minute into the game.
MacGregor’s Braden Nicoll finally got the Wild on the board at 5:20 of the second to make it a 4-1 game.
But that’s as close as the Wild got.
Neepawa closed out the scoring at 3:21 of the third when Lance Nugent scored to push the lead back to four, 5-1.
