All series are a best of five
Semi final #2 - Killarney Shamrocks vs Hartney Blues
(Killarney wins series 3 games to 1)
Monday, February 24 game recap
It took extra time last night to decide the winner as Killarney edged Hartney 4-3 in OT to advance to the Western Final.
Killarney opened the scoring early in the first at 1:23 on an unassisted goal by Morgan Magwood. Mark Derlago responded for the home town Blues exactly six minutes later - and that’s how the first period ended, tied 1-1.
Hartney jumped out to a 2-1 lead on a Tanner Ardron power play goal at 5:23. But less than a minute later, Killarney’s Brayden Cuthbert tied it up again for the Shamrocks.
The power play was clicking for the Blues as they scored another man advantage goal at 11:08 when Jesse Linner put one by Killarney goalie Brian Archibald. Hartney entered the third period up 3-2, hoping to extend the series for another game.
The game was soon tied 3-3 when Brandon Switzer scored the equalizer for Killarney at 2:18 of the third.
That was it for scoring in regulation. And it didn’t take long for a game winner in OT.
Hartney’s hopes of extending the series to five games were dashed when Killarney’s Brett Opperman scored the game and series winner 3:11 into the first overtime period. Final score: Killarney 4 Hartney 3 OT.
