Royals drop game 1 playoff match – Wednesday, February 1

In game 1 of the West Division first round playoff against the Souris Elks, the Royals offense sputtered and could not capitalize on the opportunities they had as the Elks posted a 4-0 victory. Royals' goalie Cody Matthewson held up his end with solid netminding but the Royals appeared to be a step behind the Elks for most of the game. The Elks jumped out in front 2-0 in the first period and after a scoreless second period added an additional two tallies in the final period to skate away with the win.
Royals lose heartbreaker with four seconds to play – Friday, February 3

Four seconds was all that stood between the Deloraine Royals and a possible overtime victory in game 2 of the West Division first round playoff against the Souris Elks. The Royals held the Elks scoreless in the opening period however early in the second frame Souris got on the board to take a 1-0 lead. Andrew Vercaigne pulled the Royals even at the 11:13 mark but a little more than a minute later the Elks regained the 2-1 lead going into the final period. At the 8:28 mark of the third period, Cody Nelson got the Royals even once again, assisted by Chris Manshreck and Jay Sunaert. It looked like the game was headed to OT when speedy Elks' forward Jonathon Filewich took a pass in full flight and blew by the Royals' defenders to score the winning goal with four seconds remaining in the game. The Royals were outshot in the game 52-25 and there was no doubt that the stellar play of goaltender Cody Matthewson was a big reason the Royals were in this one until the very end.

Royals' season comes to an end – Saturday, February 4

The hockey season came to an abrupt end for the Royals on Saturday night, February 4, in Souris. The Elks handed the Royals a three game sweep and put them out of the Tiger Hills Hockey League playoffs. The Elks built up an early 3-0 lead after two periods before the Royals could muster a goal by Reid Hunter at the start of the third to narrow the deficit to 3-1. Souris added another tally at the 12:33 mark before the Royals mounted a comeback effort late in the period on goals by Jay Sunaert and Brett Morrison to close the gap to 4-3. With Royals' goalie Cody Matthewson on the bench in favour of an extra attacker, Deloraine pushed for the equalizer but at the 19:32 mark Jonathon Filewich scored in the empty net to solidify the victory and the first round playoff for Souris.
