Letter to the editor

Dear editor:

I see my friends in Deloraine are nearing a referendum in regards to a new community club/curling rink. I do not live in Deloraine now, however I did call Deloraine home from January 1995 to January 1999. It was easily one of the most influential times of my life. The friends I made, the people I met, not only in town but surrounding communities, all had an impact on who I am and the man and father I’ve become. When I was playing minor baseball for Deloraine, I was fortunate enough to be invited to play with the North Winnipeg Pirates at the AAA Western Canadian Championships in Vancouver, BC, but this opportunity came with a hefty cost. Hotel was paid by the team, but flights, spending money and fuel to get to Winnipeg for team practices, sure added up. I was worried these costs would be a little too much for us to handle. Along came the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 83. I was presented with a sponsorship cheque (I can’t remember the amount, not that it matters) that essentially helped make it possible for me to be involved in such a great opportunity. I cannot express how grateful, thankful, and overwhelmed I was when I received this sponsorship. This, WAS Deloraine. This IS Deloraine. A community full of support, love, and most importantly, great people. Please make the right decision when the referendum vote takes place. Not only for the community and its residents right now, but also for the residents of the future. Deloraine’s future. To the residents of Deloraine, I thank you so much for welcoming my family and I into the community back in 1995, and I hope the right decision is made. You ALL deserve it.
