Sports Ramblings

Congratulations to Marty Murray from Lyleton on his induction into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame. Thirty years ago I played against Marty and I think I out played him! The fact he was 14 years old and playing baseball in the SWBL is not relevant. In hockey Marty was a star with the Southwest Cougars and the Brandon Wheat Kings. He was a 2 time member of the Canadian World Jr. team and played 261 NHL games. He also played overseas in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Marty is presently the head coach of the Minot Minotauros junior hockey team.

The hockey season has just begun so there are not many stats to report for our locals playing Jr. and College. The Winnipeg Jets defence has not much resemblance to last years! The forwards better keep the puck in the other end if they hope for a playoff year.

The Deloraine Colts women's volleyball team is ranked in the top ten in the provincial A level.

Going into game 3 of the American League playoffs the Minnesota Twins have lost fifteen straight post season games to the big bad Yankees!

Last article asked who was the Winnipeg Jets highest paid player. Captain Blake Wheeler is making 8.25 million this season. This week asks how much money Dustin Byfuglien loses every game he sits out.
