Deloraine’s Ashton Bell and Brandon’s Jalyn Elmes made the roster of the Canadian Women’s Hockey Development team. They play the U.S.A team this weekend in Lake Placid.

  The Westman Magic started he U14 softball nationals in Montreal with a 6-0 round-robin record, but lost to Ontario and BC in the playoff round Brooklyn Franklin, daughter of Jarrod and Michelle (Adams) had the most hits for the Brandon based team. Danika Nell of Boissevain was named the top pitcher of the tourney by Softball Canada.

  Conner Cory of Wawanesa was a member of Team Manitoba who lost in the quarter finals of the Canada Cup U17 baseball. Conner is the grandson of Raymond and Donna Todd.

  Pilot Mound won the Senior AA provincials last Sunday. Anthony Friesen pitched all 4 innings of the semifinal and final game allowing only one run. The SWBL was represented by Hamiota, Boissevain and the host Rivers team.

  Vlad Guerrero Jr. hit into a double play in the bottom of the ninth in a 1-0 loss to the Yankees last Sunday, and returned to the dugout to a standing ovation. The 20-year old rookie had a 13-pitch at bat against the Yankees 100 mph throwing reliever. One foul went off the fifth upper deck in the Skydome.

  Last week asked the name of the Virden native who played in the NHL. Jim Murray played 30 games with the L.A. Kings in the 67-68 season. He also played five seasons with the Phoenix Roadrunners of the World Hockey Association and locally with the Brandon Olympics.

  This week asks the names of the five Deloraine born players who played in the NHL.
