 Caryn Edwards spent 10 months in France as n au pair. . A two-day Manitoba Provincial Grazing Tour made its last stop at Kelly and Vanessa Vandoorne’s farm southeast of Deloraine on July 26 . . . The 16 annual Charity Golf Tournament sponsored by the Deloraine RCMP will take place Aug. 13 . . . Brodie Davis is the manager of the Manitoba Youth Jon Centre in Deloraine.

Drew Caldwell, MLA for Brandon East, met with the RM of Winchester Council on July 29. One of the most critical concerns brought to his attention was roadways/infrastructure. There has been a huge increase in road activity in recent years. With local elevator closures and only inland terminals remaining ,grain and oilseed products are being hauled by semitrucks and trailers. The wear and tear on the roads is very apparent from that industry alone. Added to that is the ever-increasing oil industry traffic and more stress on the roads and infrastructure.


Monday, July 27, the Deloraine Royals upset the Boissevain Centennials 7-6 to win the first game of the best of 3 play-off series. . . Farmer’s Market opens for business. . .The Deloraine Fair & Races were held July 17-19.


Hope Floats donated $20,000 to the 2009 Relay for Life campaign from the sale of their cookbooks “Cooking with Friends” . . Laura Lewthwaite celebrated tow milestones – her 95th birthday and four generation – Alex Day, Scott Day, Claire Day and Laura herself . . . Funnel clouds were spotted in the sky over Deloraine on July 23.


A 5-year class reunion. That’s amazing! Shirley Brown and Claire Day organized a 50t-year reunion of their Deloraine Collegiate Institute Class of 1961 . . . What a unique party! Mary Smith has always been fascinated by the fact that she was born in 1946 – the first year of the infamous baby-boomers! This year, in 2011, the first-year boomers all turn 65! Mary had first entertained the notion of a get together10 years ago when the boomers turned 55.


The game of soccer is fast gaining in popularity in southwestern Manitoba. A senior men’s team has been formed between the communities of Melita, Deloraine, Minto and Boissevain and they are known as “Southwest United FC”. Conrad Kelm, who started a youth soccer program in Deloraine two years ago, was instrumental in forming Southwest United . .  . On July 19 members of the late Hugh and May Robinson family of Medora gathered at the Mountview Centre in Deloraine for a reunion . . .The McDougald family reunion was held July 18-20 in the Medora-Brendora Hall with 59 family members . .  . TD Canada Trust celebrates customer appreciation on July 25. The TD staff is also celebrating the winning of their third green chair. The green chair trophies are awarded to branches who consistently earn the highest standard of customer service for six months . . . The Manitoba Government will introduce a bill this fall that would see the August Civic Holiday be officially called Terry Fox Day to honour his memory. Also a flag was raised this year honouring the United Nations declaration of 2014 as the International Year of family Farming. This declaration was made to increase awareness in the importance of family farming inn addressing world issues such as poverty and food security. . . Congratulations to Julie Corkish who won first prize in the Sunrise Credit Union calendar photo contest.
