J.C. Reid has 10,000 willow posts for sale at 5 cents each . . . Mail service from Deloraine to Lyleton is increased from tri-weekly to daily.

1918

The willful waste of food or food products is made illegal in Canada . . . The Presbyterian manse in Goodlands is now completed.

1923

A large crowd attends the Memorial Day Service in the Park .  .  . and receives the heaviest rainfall in living memory . . .  Ladies’ skirts are longer this year.

1928

While the horse I yet far from being finished on Western Canadian farms, the day of the tractor has definitely arrived.

1934

The Canadian Forestry tree-planting car is in Deloraine . . . Deloraine Harness Races are cancelled this year due to poor economic conditions.

1935

Prime Minister Bennett is considering retirement due to ill health . . . There are 26 entries in this year’s harness races.

1940

W.A. Bourns, publisher of the Hartney Star, takes over the Deloraine Times and Waskada News . . . The Red Cross room needs sewing machines.

1957

The first International Boy Scout Jamboree is held at the Peace Garden . . . Mr. and Mrs. J.A. McMechan celebrate their 50th anniversary.

1963

Ceremonies mark the official opening of Deloraine’s new waterworks system . . . Pope John XXIII is mourned and his memory is honoured.

1973

Lake Metigoshe Area Improvement Association is a voice for the cabin owners.

1984

The local airport receives $200.000 for major upgrading . . . 4-H in this district celebrates its 50th anniversary.

1990

Deloraine’s newly formed Economic Development Boa receives its first grant from Deloraine Council . . . Ed Lewis is honoured for is long service to the Manitoba Wildlife Federation.

2013

New highway signs for Deloraine have gone up on Highway #10 and on Highway #21. The signs were made possible by the Deloraine Chamber of Commerce and Deloraine-Winchester Tourism Committee. . .Deloraine’s library receives an exterior facelift.

2016

Stefan Trischuk, owner of Stefan Trischuk Aerosports in Saskatoon brought his plane to Mark Pazdzior of Border Aircraft Maintenance Ltd. in Deloraine to be readied for the upcoming air show season . . . Delodaze will be held on June 25 at the fairgrounds, featuring four live bands — the Mike Sacharko Band, The Middle Coast, Hit Boss Band and Whole Lotta Angus (AC/DC Cover band). . . Two South West Manitoba Baseball League teams are to be inducted into the Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame _ Wawanesa Brewers (2006-2011) and the Waska Orioles (1084-1989). . . Congratulations to Jessica Goethals who won the Grade 10-12 Public Speaking scholarship at the Provincials Festival in Brandon.
