Deloraine Junior Rifle Club (DJRC) had 50 students and 6 adults for the 2015/16 season. Every year students register intent on learning hunter safety; DJRC is one of many clubs in the Province that makes this possible. Along with safety, the students also learn sportsmanship and respect toward other hunters and non-hunters, alike. They shoot two targets once a week throughout the season, sit through classroom instruction, write many tests and exams; all in preparation for writing and obtaining their Hunter Safety and Canadian Firearms Acquisition Certificate.
Another benefit of participating in Junior Rifle is the chance to belong to a Provincial Championship team. Members of these teams are chosen based on target scores, test scores, classroom and range behaviour. Our Club chooses winners of various awards based on the same principles for our annual, year-end presentation at “Outdoor Day”.
On Saturday, June 4 the Deloraine Junior Rifle Club held its annual “Outdoor Day”. The following results represent the student’s achievements over the past season:
Club awards were as follows: Gideon Nadlersmith (Keith Whenham Memorial Most Sportsmanlike Conduct trophy), Ethan Miller (DJRC Over All Proficiency), David Walker (DJRC Marksman Proficiency); Justin Rickard (DJRC Marksman High Shooter); Carson Arde (DJRC Novice Proficiency); Deklen Smart (DJRC Novice High Shooter) Anna Coupland (DJRC Girls High Shooter); Hayden Vandoorne (DJRC Beginner Proficiency); Hunter Arde (DJRC Beginner High Shooter), Hannah Daniels (DJRC Best on the Range); Liz Howden, Mary Arde, Christina Roy, Chad Vandaele, Tony Raes, and Kevin Maddess (adult participants)
Instructor Darren, Dolores and Wayne Howden, Alandra Bailey, Andrew and Shawna Inverarity and Teresa Dillabough of the Deloraine Junior Rifle Club could not be happier with the achievements of each and everyone in the club.
The success of our Club is made possible with support from the community and the parents. The following are our sponsors for the year: MT Outhouse, Boundary Co-op, (Boissevain, Deloraine), CPS (Deloraine), Debbie Spence. Support for our fundraising efforts from the community is very important to us and we greatly appreciate the attendance at our Pulled Pork supper, our Ham & Perogies supper and Lasagna supper this past season. Dianna and the staff at the Legion support us greatly every year by supplying a venue where families can attend these suppers together and it is very much appreciated.
