Manitoba Mural Mosaic Project

Arts Mosaic is launching a MB Mural Mosaic project to celebrate the history and artistic impact that rural communities have had on forming Manitoba into this great province we call home.

The communities of Virden, Reston, Oak Lake and Elkhorn have all made space available for this project. It is our hope that each mural will be a celebration of what makes each community a vital part of this province – showcasing the unique history and impact of each.

Each mural location is also an opportunity to highlight a further piece of history by way of location, impact on the community, etc.

Artists are encouraged to research the communities involved in this project for any relevant logos, symbols, landmarks, people and events that have had a positive impact on forming the community they call home.

The mural locations are: Virden – Gopher Creek Coffee Company, Reston at the golf course –‘The Watering Hole’, Oak Lake – Oak Lake Community School, Elkhorn – the Manitoba Antique Automobile Museum.

This project sprang from a chance encounter between the Arts Mosaic administrator and a local business owner in Virden. Don’t all of the best ideas come from an encounter such as this? From this encounter a committee of community volunteers has been formed to oversee this project. Project managers have been selected for each community, and the Arts Mosaic administrator will act as the overall manager of this project.

The request for proposals is available on the Arts Mosaic website, with detailed pictures and information on each mural location.
